Babi Makhetha is a driven community activist and education equity champion based in Sasolburg, Free State. With a background in IT engineering, banking, and management, Babi left a promising corporate career to dedicate herself full-time to grassroots development and public service.
In 2023, she launched 3TWENTY7, an initiative focused on restoring dignity and school readiness by providing proper footwear to underprivileged learners. What began as a personal mission evolved into a growing movement — one that tackles the deeper issues of poverty, attendance, and self-worth in disadvantaged schools.
Through 3TWENTY7, Babi has already delivered over 50 pairs of school shoes to learners at Emfuleni Primary School. She transformed a simple handover into a full community celebration, involving parents, local leaders, and government representatives. The project garnered media coverage in Sedibeng Ster and is now on its way to becoming a registered nonprofit with a goal of reaching 500+ learners by 2027.
Babi’s work goes beyond handouts — it fosters community engagement, builds partnerships, and empowers young people to believe in their worth. Testimonials from parents and educators consistently praise her ability to uplift and mobilize entire communities through empathy, leadership, and action.
Now serving as a Constituency Coordinator in local politics, she advocates for inclusive policy, youth participation, and grassroots problem-solving. Her story is proof that real change starts at the community level — and that one pair of shoes can spark a revolution of hope.
