Bokang Rapatsa is a dedicated education activist and founder of the Bokang Academy of Excellence, a grassroots literacy and development centre transforming the lives of young people in Limpopo. Her academy provides safe, structured spaces for learners who struggle with reading and writing—empowering them to gain foundational literacy skills and stay off the streets.

Bokang’s work has gained national attention and acclaim. In 2022, she was named Best Community Builder of the Year, and in 2023, she was recognized as a Sunday World Unsung Hero and featured among Inside Education’s 100 SA Shining Stars. That same year, she was also honoured by H&L Hardware as a Community Hero. Her accolades continued in 2024 with two major distinctions: the Mail & Guardian Power of Women Award and the Best Woman of Influence and Community Builder in Limpopo Award.

Through her academy, Bokang doesn’t just teach—she restores hope. She creates a nurturing environment where children feel seen, heard, and supported. Many of her students have gone from struggling readers to confident, expressive learners.

Her approach goes beyond academics, incorporating playtime, peer bonding, and emotional development to build trust and confidence in each child. She believes that literacy is a life-changing tool—and her mission is to ensure no child is left behind due to lack of opportunity.

Bokang Rapatsa is a beacon of light in her community, using education as a catalyst for change and proving that one woman’s commitment can rewrite hundreds of futures.
