Gcina Sawuka is a passionate youth activist, community health advocate, and human rights champion from Gauteng Province in the City of Johannesburg, deeply committed to the fight for health equity, social justice, and HIV awareness. With a strong background in advocacy, peer education, and community mobilisation, Gcina has worked at the grassroots level to empower young people with knowledge and support.
As a long-time volunteer and organiser with the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC), Gcina has played an active role in HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention, and treatment campaigns — advocating for access to healthcare services and breaking the stigma around HIV. He has completed specialist training in abstract writing and HIV criminalisation through the HIV Justice Academy, equipping him with advanced skills in rights-based health communication.
Gcina’s activism extends into schools and youth forums, where he leads sessions on life skills, sexual health, and gender equality. His voice is also heard in national campaigns that challenge injustice, discrimination, and misinformation affecting vulnerable communities.
Those who’ve worked alongside him describe him as reliable, focused, and driven by compassion. His leadership style is inclusive and educational, ensuring young people are not only informed but empowered to become advocates themselves.
Gcina Sawuka stands as a powerful example of youth-led transformation in South Africa. Through his continued efforts, he’s helping to build a more informed, just, and compassionate society — one conversation, workshop, and campaign at a time.
