Re-Racialising the Economy? Oppose the Employment Equity Sectoral Targets!

Free SA condemns the Department of Employment and Labour’s recently gazetted Employment Equity sectoral targets as a misguided and unconstitutional attempt at demographic engineering. This policy will undermine economic growth, damage merit-based advancement, and erode the foundational principle of non-racialism enshrined in the Constitution.

More about this campaign

The Determination, which imposes rigid racial and gender quotas across eighteen sectors of the economy, lacks any transparent labour market analysis or evidence-based justification. It mandates that employers achieve arbitrary numerical targets, threatening businesses with penalties for non-compliance, and dangerously prioritises identity over competence.

The Department’s approach entrenches a system of new racial classification that stands in direct conflict with Section 1 of the Constitution, which lists non-racialism as a founding value.
