Rita Dee Nephawe — known artistically as Rita Dee Diva — is a multi-hyphenate creative and cultural force blending journalism, poetry, music, and education to spotlight the stories and struggles of South Africa’s youth. Hailing from Gauteng, she is the founder of The Underground Plug, a leading underground hip hop platform that documents emerging artists and amplifies voices often excluded from mainstream media.

As a writer and MC, Rita has built a respected presence in hip hop journalism, covering topics from social justice to music culture. She has hosted over 60 live interviews, profiled over 200 artists, and curated monthly cyphers and showcases that elevate emerging talent. Her YouTube channel and publications have reached thousands of viewers, and she’s been featured by platforms like Mzansi Arts & Media Awards, Street Level Cyphers, and Women of Substance SA.

Rita is also a published poet and performing artist, using her work to challenge gender norms, promote mental health awareness, and advocate for women’s voices in male-dominated spaces. She has taught poetry and hip hop workshops in schools and libraries across the country, reaching over 1,500 young creatives through mentorship, open mics, and literacy programs.

Recognised by Mzansi Arts & Media Awards as a nominee for Best MC and Best Writer, Rita is a true bridge between community, creativity, and consciousness.
