Sindisiwe Sandra Msimango is a trailblazing social work professional from Piet Retief, Mpumalanga, whose dedication to serving victims of gender-based violence (GBV) has made her a respected figure in the field of social development. She currently serves as a Social Work Supervisor at the Mpumalanga Shelter Movement, where she oversees the Victim Empowerment Programme across multiple GBV shelters in the Gert Sibande District.

Her journey began in 2016 as a Registry Clerk at the Department of Social Development, where her passion for meaningful impact led her to pursue a degree in BA Social Work, followed by an Honours in Psychology. She is currently completing her Master’s in Social Work, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to academic growth and professional excellence.

Ms. Msimango’s career is marked by her strong advocacy work and leadership in GBV prevention and survivor support. She has:

• Led empowerment and life skills programmes for GBV survivors, introducing computer literacy, arts, beauty, and self-care services—personally securing donations and supplies to make these programs possible.

• Represented Mpumalanga in the National Shelter Movement of South Africa (NSMSA), serving as Provincial Representative and speaking at key platforms such as the 2nd Presidential Summit on GBV and the 2024 Women’s Parliament.

• Been an active member of the Mpumalanga Provincial Task Team for Trafficking in Persons, enhancing inter-agency collaboration to combat human trafficking.

Her hands-on leadership style and selflessness are also evident through personal gestures—such as funding a recognition ceremony for her supervisees and serving as a place-of-safety and foster parent to vulnerable children in her community.

Sindisiwe is a respected advocate, leader, and changemaker—known for her compassion, resourcefulness, and deep-rooted belief in empowering women and children. Her contributions to the GBV space have earned her recognition not just within government and civil society, but across national platforms championing social justice and human dignity.
